The fighting between Israel and Palestine in Gaza entered its second week despite international calls for a ceasefire.

It’s been 9 days into the latest round of fighting between Gaza and Israel, and it appears there is no immediate halt to the hostilities.

The violence is taking a disproportionate toll on Gaza and its residents. More than 200 have been killed, including dozens of children, and the humanitarian situation there is deteriorating. In Israel, ten have been killed by Hamas rockets.

A complex set of events helped spur this latest round of fighting. And now, in spite of mounting international pressure, leaders on either side do not seem interested in finding a path to peace.

Aaron David Miller is senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and was a Middle East negotiator in Democratic and Republican administrations.

Diane asked him where this situation is headed and what should be the role of the Biden White House.
